The Nautical Procession

Parroquia Inmaculada Concepcion Av. Liniers 1560, Tigre, Buenos Aires

The Virgin has been remembered and venerated every 8 December in Tigre since 1854. Since 1949, the classic nautical procession on the Luján River is also carried out as part of the celebration. Planning is handled by the Municipality along with the Church of the Immaculate Conception of Liniers.

Neighbors and visitors join the procession on foot, departing from the Immaculate Conception Parish, in order to carry the image of the Virgin Mary to Lavalle and Madero streets, where Holy Mass is celebrated.
They then proceed on to the ‘Rowers’ Monument’, where the Nautical Procession begins on the Luján River, headed by a vessel of the Argentine Naval Prefecture.
Numerous boats join the caravan behind the main vessel, while from the coast of Paseo Victorica, attendees offer greetings waving white and yellow kerchiefs, and usually throw flowers into the river for the Virgin. The Closing Ceremony marks the official end of the Procession on Paseo Victorica.
