Museo Haroldo Conti

Haroldo Conti discovered the Delta from the air, while completing his hours to be a pilot. In 1955, he bought this typical island house, where he spent long periods of time with his family. This territory inspired his most famous novel 'Southeast' (1962) and here he composed many of his stories, among others, 'Ballad of the Carolina poplar' (1975). He used to write in the kitchen. His table, kerosene fridge, navigation instruments and other objects that were kept after his kidnapping, on May 5, 1976, are still preserved. Here he was visited by Eduardo Galeano, Rodolfo Walsh and Mario Benedetti, among many other great authors. In 2009, the Municipality of Tigre, in agreement with Chacabuco, his hometown, turned this house into a House Museum and built an Interpretation Center where the Memorial Library is located, with copies of his work and the complete collection of the 'Crisis magazine'. A journey of memory and nature that recovers the identity of a writer who disappeared in the last military civic dictatorship, and who chose the Delta as a place of inspiration.
